Shopping Buenos Aires’ Hidden Gems
Buenos Aires is home to a long tradition of creative artisans, combining old world techniques with modern creativity and style. While the glittering boutiques of Buenos Aires’ many shopping malls are lovely, the small, carefully curated boutiques scattered from Palermo to Recoleta are a window into the city’s style and creatives.
Starting in Palermo, head to Made in Chola (@madeinchola) for a wide variety of on-trend handmade hats made throughout Latin America using traditional techniques. Operating out of their showroom at Gurruchaga 2150 #9A (ring the bell and they’ll let you up!), Made in Chola has an active Instagram account and seasonal collections of hats, as well as small capsules of clothing.
Several blocks away operating out of a small store front with their workshop and office in the back of the traditional Palermo house, Nimes Buenos Aires (@nimes_buenosaires) has naturally tanned leather products all handmade in Buenos Aires. Featuring a beautiful selection of unisex leather bags and small accessories at reasonable price points, Nimes is a must visit. The bags feature natural variations in the leather, and age beautifully. Be sure to ask to peek into their workshop!
For small, carefully curated selections of brights and basics, check out Piccola Basics (@piccola_basics) and Ivana W (@w.ivana.ok). Piccola operates an online shop with linens and knits for all seasons, with both on-trend and classic basics. Ivana W has a showroom at Arribenos 1572 #4E, full of creative shapes, beautiful prints and vibrant colors.
De Maria (@zapatosdemaria), located on Libertad 1655 in Recoleta, has been making handmade delicate, bold, feminine shoes and handbags for over a decade. With an occasional retro vibe, and vibrant colors and materials, De Maria combines the best of international fashion trends and Argentine sensibility and artisanship.
