African printed cotton.

Since 2015, MACCous has sourced cotton fabric in markets in Tanzania and Zambia to create boho lounge essentials. From the beach to the bath, MACCous cotton dressing gowns, coverups and sleepwear mixes vibrant colors and African prints for a one-of-a kind look. Each pattern is carefully selected and hand washed for softness and then stitched by local artisans in Zambia.

Hand cut. Hand stitched. Hand washed.

Our fabrics are sourced in local markets in Zambia and Tanzania, with some special fabrics for our capsule collections coming from farther afield. We buy directly from the men and women selling the fabrics - no wholesalers - and most of the fabrics are one of a kind. The patterns show up one week and are never seen again. We decide which design to use for each piece of fabric, which is then hand cut to make each MACCous piece. Because the patterns in Tanzanian kanga fabrics are irregular, each garment is truly one of a kind. All of our pieces are hand washed multiple times to remove excess dye and that starchy feeling. They become softer with every wash.
